An early Victorian silver vinaigrette by Edward Smith, Birmingham 1847 (date letter worn), with shaped rim and scrolling decoration to exterior, the hinged cover depicting a neoclassical building (possibly St. Martin-in-the-Fields), engraved initials to reverse 'SH', pierced inner cover and original sponge to interior, 40mm x 28mm, weight 19.9gms

Overall condition is good. Areas of splitting concentrated around the base at the shaped border, and some areas of splitting around the border of the hinged cover. Possible solder repair around hinge or cover. Engraved decoration is clear and crisp. Some light dents focused to the high points of the shaped borders, and scratching to exterior and interior. Hinged interior open and closes smoothly, but does not lie flat. Cover opens and closes smoothly, and lies flat.
